From drinking water to saline environments: GraphiSulfone® tested in the Mar Piccolo of Taranto

One of the most promising aspects of LIFE Remembrance lies in the transferability of its materials to different environmental matrices. This potential was further explored within the ATOS Project (PNRR), where GraphiSulfone® – blended with additional sorbent materials – was tested for the treatment of saline water in the Mar Piccolo of Taranto.

The objective was to evaluate the material’s capacity to remove PFAS, pesticides and heavy metals in a complex marine environment, significantly different from drinking water conditions addressed in LIFE Remembrance.

The results of the ATOS Project were presented during ECOMONDO, within a workshop organized as part of Spoke 1 of the Ecosister project, funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This dissemination moment provided an opportunity to share the outcomes with a broad audience of researchers, industry stakeholders and policy representatives active in the field of ecological transition.

Although the ATOS project has now concluded, the results confirm the adaptability and versatility of GraphiSulfone®-based systems. This application demonstrates that the technological assets developed within LIFE Remembrance can be partially or fully exploited in broader environmental remediation contexts, opening new opportunities for future industrial and research initiatives.
